General Specifications

Angus pipes are modeled after the designs of Coyne, Egan and Harrington. All parts are made by hand by Brad Angus. Pipes are made from ebony,boxwood, brass, nickel silver and imitation ivory. Bags and bellows are hand stitched. Velvet bag covers are avilable in a variety of colors.

Chanter

All chanters are tuned to A=440. Chanters are made using a combination of "D" reamers to create the bore and spoon augers to tune individual notes. All tone holes are undercut for tuning, both forward and back. Five Keys are standard: F-nat, G#, Bb, C-nat and high D. Chanter keys have round pads and milled keyways. All tone holes for keys are drilled upon chanter manufacture to insure proper tuning. Keys not installed when the chanter is made will be covered with a glued leather pad. Wooden chanter tops include stop key. Standard gooseneck inlet tube is hand rolled from sheet metal.

Mainstock

Mainstocks are hollow with internal tubing to house the tenor and baritone regulators and to feed air from the rear of the stock. Mainstock regulator tubes are angled out from each other, spreading slightly so that endcaps do no press against adjacent regulators. Drone sockets are also angled slightly for the same purpose.

Drones

All drones have tapered bores to ensure stability and responsiveness. Drone end mounts have internal cavities to round out tone. All hard edges in the drones and mounts are eased to reduce turbulence at the exit. Metal parts are not made from tubing, they are hand rolled from sheet metal. Bass drone bends have a flattend cross section. All Ferules are hand rolled from sheet metal.

Regulators

Bass regulator is removable. Bass regulator attaches to mainstock via a metal shoe that slides into a filling attached to the side of the mainstock. Lower Key section of the bass regulator is angled slightly to align its keys in elevation with the tenor and baritone regulators. All ferules are hand rolled from sheet metal. Regulator keys are shaped in the Coyne style. Teardrop keys in the style of Egan are availiable upon request.
